A puzzled world, exhibition art in public space, Kortrijk, 2008

This exhibition is build around the theme expo 58.
The big world exhibition in Brussels, named expo 58, was very important for the changes after world war II. The optimistic view of the future was remarkable. The future was bright and shiny. Everything was possible. Human intellect could answer all our questions.
This is a big contrast for now days. We don't believe in the future. We are afraid. We think that we ruined the world, just with our creations and lack of intellect...

A lot of questions were even forbidden to ask during that time.
Like the cold world war between Amerika and USSR, the problems with Belgium and Congo, women rights...Women should be nice and beautiful and listen to their husband and parents in law. Everything was decided for them....
The women of the fifties are ignored and imprissoned in the spirit of being nice, beautiful and silent. When the Worldexpo 58 was opened by the king Boudewijn, he only welcomed the men, like women didn't exist...
In this work I try to show another inner world, never shown at expo 58, but living in the heads of the women. I try to show their hidden ideas they couldn't speak. Thaughts in an puzzled world.
